Specialist ClinicsModern AcupunctureBoth Teri and Adam have been trained in modern acupuncture, which is a western style of acupuncture, also known as intra muscular stimulation. Unlike traditional acupuncture, which involves the body's 'meridians' and carries some mysticism, modern acupuncture is based on anatomy and physiology. The process involves stimulating directly the point of pain to promote a local healing response. This is very useful when dealing with acute and long-term pain, because of its ability to instantly desensitise the area so that osteopathic treatment can be completed more comfortably. All needles are new, sterile and disposed of in our portable sharp instrument bins. HeadachesHeadaches occur to all of us at one time or another and can be a hindrance to everyday life, whether the cause be pre-menstrual in women, posture related, stress induced or due to eye strain among other causes. 'The vast majority of headaches have been proven statistically to be of benign cause and may be treated osteopathically.' A full case history is taken to establish the cause of your headache. Osteopaths have in-depth training in the pathological causes of headache and are able to recognise when osteopathy is inappropriate and further referral is required. Most headaches are short lived, but in some cases they may become part of the sufferer's everyday life and it often becomes the norm to take medication to ease the pain. A course of osteopathy is often all that is needed to break the habitual cycle of medication use. If osteopathic treatment is deemed appropriate, treatment is generally aimed to improve joint mobility, reduce tension in muscles and surrounding tissues and reduce possible nerve irritation, especially in neck. Treatment may also improve blood supply and drainage to and from the neck. Advice with posture and stretching, as well as advice on ways to relieve stress is also part of the treatment plan.
