OsteopathyWhat is Osteopathy?Osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that promotes the healthy functioning of the whole body by treating the musculo-skeletal system . It is a safe, natural, non-invasive and painless process that encourages the body's self-healing and self-regulating abilities. Before embarking on a course of treatment, we take a full medical history and look at all the reasons you may be experiencing your discomfort. Osteopaths are trained to ask the right questions to determine the root cause of pain and discomfort. By treating the problem source, your pain and discomfort is less likely to reoccur. Having pinpointed the factors that are predisposing and exacerbating your condition, we will discuss with you the appropriate treatment plan. 'It is a safe, natural, non-invasive and painless process that encourages the body's self-healing and self-regulating abilities.' Osteopathic TreatmentOsteopaths use their hands to treat patients, and are expert in a wide variety of tried and tested manual techniques. 'Your treatment may also be complimented with home exercise and advice on work posture, diet and lifestyle.' Appropriate treatment for an individual may include massage, gentle stretching, traction, and occasional manipulation (the osteopathic 'click'). Cranial OsteopathyCranial osteopathy has many similarities with the oldest known method of healing, the laying on of hands. The osteopath combines healing intention with a knowledge of anatomy and physiology, using the hands to "listen" for subtle rhythms that occur in all body tissue. Any alteration in these rhythms may lead to restrictions or strains in the body causing discomfort. Although the name implies head manipulation, the techniques are used to treat the whole body. Cranial osteopathy can be utilized to treat many complaints such as whiplash, headache and some digestive problems and is particularly suitable for babies and small children. Its very gentle techniques have been developed to treat conditions arising from a difficult or traumatic birth, such as colic, feeding difficulties, and disturbed sleep patterns.
