Osteopathy

Your First Visit

We believe it is important to make all our clients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visits. Patients are welcome to bring along a friend of family member if they so wish.

Your first visit may last up to an hour. As well as a full case history your osteopath may ask questions about your occupation, pastimes and hobbies.

You will normally be asked to remove some clothing, to allow for examination, and to perform some simple movements. The osteopath then uses the highly developed sense of touch known as palpation to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body.

To allow for a full diagnosis and suitable treatment plan, there may be a need for additional investigations such as x-ray or blood tests.

If osteopathy is deemed suitable for your condition, an estimated prognosis will usually be given, including time and cost. Your first treatment usually begins at this point.

Insurance and Standards

Osteopathy is an established profession recognised as a ‘discreet clinical discipline’ by The British Medical Association and regulated by The General Osteopathic Council. Patients have the same safeguards when visiting an osteopath as when visiting a doctor or dentist.
